Dear colleagues, polar researchers, friends,

It is my pleasure to announce that the 11th BIOSCIENCES IN POLAR AND ALPINE RESEARCH organized by the Masaryk university team is coming in late November 2025. Therefore, allow me to draw your attention to the first circular of this scientific event. The workshop has got a fixed format, i.e. a hybrid even with majority of attendants being present and presenting on-line.

In brief, it is our pleasure to invite you to Biosciences in Polar and Alpine Research, a workshop that will be held on November 27th, 2025 at the Faculty of Science, University Campus Bohunice, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. General intention of the meeting is to provide a platform for data presentation, exchange of professional knowledge and formation of interdisciplinary approaches in polar research.

In 2025, the BIOSCIENCES workshop enlarges its scope to attract specialist from a wide variety of fields of science emphasizing an integrative approach exploiting multiple biological disciplines in the studies of polar ecosystems and their analogues (see the topics marked with an asterisk). Based on the experience gained during last few years, the meeting will be organized on-line (the link will be sent to the participants after their registration). Oral presentations should fit into one of the following sections:

Omics era in polar research

Antarctica as model for space seasearch

Stress physiology of polar and alpine autotrophs

Ecology of polar autotrophs

Local and regional studies on vegetation response to warming in Antarctica

Polar and Alpine microbiology from the field to a laboratory (and back again)

Molecular biology and genetics of Polar and Alpine animals

Biology of humans - Man and polar regions (expeditions, health care in Antarctica)

International co-operation in polar biology research

Main scope of the BIOSCIENCES workshop is the application of short- and long-term monitoring in the field, as well as experimental biological work in a laboratory in recent polar research. Apart of interdisciplinarity of the meeting, our intention is to promote co-operation between particular teams working in the field of polar research. Last but not least, presentation of recent results of Czech and international polar science is main goal as well as promotion of professional information transfer to students and early career young scientists.

Please find details about participation and abstract/presentation guidelines at particular submenu at this web site. Deadline for abstract/paper submission is November 21st, 2025 (24:00). Abstract should not be longer than 3500 characters including spaces. After submission, the abstract will pass peer review process before November 27th and then published in Czech Polar Reports (Vol. 16th, No. 1, 2026).
